In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

1. use geometric grids to apply the rule of thirds to their own, original photographs

2. calculate the inverse square relationship between a light source and the subject, eg predict how moving a lamp twice as far away from a subject reduces the light intensity to one-fourth of its original strength

3. use trigonometry to determine how the focal length of a lens, ie the distance from the lens to the sensor, affects the triangular field of vision, and explain why a wide-angle lens captures a larger horizontal degree than a telephoto lens
