The Board of Trustees has appointed David Laws as its new chair, after Anne Spackman stood down. David's appointment is with immediate effect.
Anne valuably helped us navigate the General Election period and later the Government’s Call for Evidence as part of the Curriculum and Assessment Review.
Our Chair is responsible for leading the Board of Trustees, which is responsible for steering AQA to fulfil its educational charity purpose by approving and monitoring the implementation of our strategy, and establishing our overarching policy and direction.
David was elected as MP for Yeovil in 2001. He served on the Treasury Select Committee, and then held a variety of Liberal Democrat posts – in the Treasury, Work and Pensions, and Education portfolios. He was one of the negotiators of the 2010-2015 Coalition Agreement, and served in Government as Chief Secretary, Schools Minister and Cabinet Office Minister, before leaving parliament in 2015. He then led the Education Policy Institute as its Executive Chair.
