Claire Thomson

Claire is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of AQA’s A level and GCSE exams and OxfordAQA’s international equivalents. She provides the strategic direction for delivering industry-leading processes, systems and capabilities for examination delivery, and is responsible for all aspects of creating, distributing, marking and awarding secure, high-stakes, high-volume assessment.
A qualified Business Studies teacher, Claire taught at schools and colleges in Cumbria and Greater Manchester before joining AQA as a Subject Officer in 2000. Since then, Claire has gained extensive knowledge and experience of the general qualifications sector through various roles in assessment, qualifications and markets, operational delivery, projects and programmes, change management, government contract delivery and regulatory compliance.
Claire has previously been a non-executive director for the Joint Council for Qualifications and The Learning Alliance multi-academy trust. She also has commercial experience gained early in her career within the energy and services industry.
