Our Executive Team

On 9 September 2019, Mark Bedlow was appointed Interim CEO of AQA following Toby Salt’s decision to step down due to health and family reasons. Mark was previously Director of Delivery at AQA, joining the organisation earlier this year. Toby remains committed to AQA and will support the organisation in an advisory capacity. A new post of Interim Deputy CEO has been created during this transition period to which Roddy Gillespie has been appointed. Roddy will combine this role with that of Director of Qualifications and Markets. A recruitment process to appoint a permanent CEO, either from inside or outside the organisation, will take place.

Board of Trustees

The Board is responsible for our overall strategy, policy, educational initiatives and development, and for steering AQA to fulfil its educational and charitable objectives. Trustees are drawn from various educational and business bodies to ensure a balance of skills and experience and serve for no more than three terms of three years.
