The adjustment for GCSE French and German is based on Ofqual’s research in 2019 into grading standards at GCSE. Ofqual later published their decisions instructing exam boards to make adjustments in GCSE French and German to align standards with GCSE Spanish from the 2020 exam series.
Ofqual has now published the 2024 series grading adjustment for GCSE French and German. These changes mean that the grade boundaries are now slightly lower than they would have been for this summer.
For summer 2024, in GCSE French and GCSE German, we’ve made a small adjustment which will increase the number of learners achieving results at grades 4 and 7 for GCSE French, and at grades 4, 7 and 9 for GCSE German.
You can find the summer 2024 grade boundaries on results day on our grade boundaries webpage.
