Unit Award Scheme

Girls in sport
Here you will find Unit Award Scheme (UAS) units written to support the engagement of girls in sport.
Written with school-aged learners and adults in mind, these units aim to address the barriers that girls face when accessing sport and to educate parents, educators and sports coaches alike to support girls in their access to sport.
According to research by the Youth Sports trust, girls are almost four times more likely than boys to not enjoy or feel confident in taking part in sport, and less than half of girls aged 5-18 are meeting recommended activity levels.
The Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation say the key barriers girls reported facing when accessing sport include the onset of puberty and menstruation, issues with body image and self-esteem, accessibility of certain sports, and the lack of female role models in sport.
You can choose to teach any of the units from the suite or amend them to meet bespoke student needs. Learners receive a certificate each time they complete a unit, providing tangible evidence of achievement. This is a proven way to help students engage in their learning, build confidence and take clear steps towards success in sport.
